This movement around Art and Craft of Gold and Silver- Smithing in Évora has its origin in 2004, when the owner of the Galeria 21, Paula Costa, proposed the realisation of  a work-shop and offered the space of her gallery on this purpose.

From punctual events in the beginning, it started to grow and became a consistent group of artists, skilled and oriented by Dörte Steingräber Gradissimo.  Four years later, raises the need
of a different space with different challenges.
The new space  -COMCEITO-  in Malagueira
is meant to promote the continuity of the work, joined by new challenges: it pretends to become a space of research, manufacture, attendance, advertisement and education.
It is a space of incubation of new approaches
of the craft, with high respect towards its   thousands of years of history, regarding:
- its origins, techniques and intentions; its presence in the religious and social experience as well as in the political background of mankind; its powerful presence when differentiation, (un)balance of power- and individuation, creation of identity and image are required.

- Its technical competence, its  fearless search of new materials and new ways of working with them and its  resistance against  “taking things the easy way”.

- Its richness of the symbolic and  the abstract; its ability of creating meaning and messages, as well as the aesthetic in ornamental objects.

The presence of different artists coming from different professional backgrounds, promotes the bases of distinctive views, it enriches the group reflexion and the diversity of the creation, it promotes moments of sharing.
Having the concept as an aspiration, it doesn´t, however, pretend to impose a determined reading.
It simply proposes to generate reflection, to provide visibility of intention, to offer communication.

That is the idea of COMCEITO.
